What do yee think about buying property in Bulgaria?Mate of mine is buying appartment in summer in Sofia by the beach.

Good for him, only a stones throw to the beach most probably.

Well actually a bit more seeing as Sofia is about 400km from the coast.

But wouldn't holding off entry to the EU have alienated the bulgarian and Romanian people?
I don't really think that it's relevant. The only country so alienated that it rejected entry was Norway, which, coincidentally, was richer. Given the economic circumstances, they'll still want to come in. It would hopefully get the local population on the backs of the politicians to do something about the problems, which are largely structural, in those two countries.

I'd have held off for another year or two. Romania has too many minority rights problems and Bulgaria needs to get its legal system sorted out and crack down on people smuggling and organised crime.

I don't expect mass immigration from either of them though. Romanians are more likely to go to other Latin countries. There aren't that many Bulgarians and they are so poor, they'll get recruited to replace all the Poles that have left...

Looks like they listened to jungle - http://www.rte.ie/news/2006/0516/eu1.html
