Sky Question

I’m going to switch from Virgin to Sky as they deal they have for TV and broadband for 50 quid seems a bargain. The main requirement is broadband, I dont really watch much TV bar sport. There are 2 options
- 500MB broadband and the Sky Q box, or
- 1000MB broadband and the Sky Streaming Box

The kids watch nothing on TV bar sport, everything else is streamed. I dont think the internet speed makes any difference, I live in a well serviced area and anything from 100MB+ wouldnt even be noticeable so either would do the trick there, chances are it will be around 200MB with either service I’d say. I presume the difference between the Sky Q box and the streaming box is that I have a TV line in so thats there regardless of broadband, and we can record programmes?

Is there anything I am missing here as my inclination is to get the Sky Q box and 500MB package?

Aren't these sweet deals just introductory offers with the price going up once the initial contract ends?

Smart and ballsy operators ring up to cancel their sub every so often to get a discount though.

I did it with my Irish Times sub last year, got a reduction for 6 months and then it back up to the normal price.

I switched over to sky with the 50euro deal in July. I did go for the extra broadband for another 10e . Its a streaming box and so far so good ,
12 month deal. I was with virgin but just for broadband as I use the firestick and iptv so had no need for the TV service but they put the price up to 65e a month just for the Internet so I said fuck that.

Definitely the 500MB with the sky Q.

The 500MB is very fast, and anything above that wouldn't be very noticeable to be honest.

The difference here is going to be the sky Q over the Streaming box.
Sky Q wins hands down.
Multiple recordings at the same time.
1TB or 2TB storage.
Can add the ITV channels if needed, as you don't get them on the Streaming box.
Also, the Streaming box don't have as much channel choice as the Sky Q, even if a lot of them are shite.

Also, if your broadband ever goes down, you'll also lose your TV with the Streaming box.
With Sky Q you'll still have your TV channels.

For me personally, sky Q is a no brainer.

Nice one - any idea what the price for the same €50 bundle is after 12 months?

Can you record things on the streaming box or is it just a router effectively?

I think it's bizarre you have to go to Other channels with Sky, to get the ITV channels. Obviously there are other methods but it is not a positive imo.

I have basic Sky as a backup but I'm thinking about calling them get rid of it....best case they'll give it half price.

Thanks FrispY

My thinking is similar to your own, but if the deal was the streaming box only I don’t think I’d mind either

Goes up to around 100e after 12 months but the guy told me they will keep the price down if you threatened to leave. It doesn't actually record but you can save series so it's basically the same.
