Children will be taught about sex and relationships at an earlier age in school under plans for a major overhaul of the primary-level curriculum.

The public is being asked for opinions on the first major revamp of the primary school curriculum in 25 years.

The changes include teaching children about sex, consent and relationships at an earlier stage and spending less class time on religion.

The NCCA has said it is important to introduce sex education earlier because children are starting school at an older age and some are experiencing puberty earlier.

The curriculum teaches small kids the basics of how their body works and teaches them that boys have a penis and girls have a vagina. They both have a rectum.
they teach older kids about safety, personal choice, consent, the physical side of sex , relationships , different sexual orientations, pornography and so on at the appropriate age.

My young fella is going through puberty at the moment and the first sight of hairs growing down below freaked him out,
His school are doing work on this over the next few days to help him and his colleagues along,
I have no issue with that,

Back in my day, there was no sex education on the curriculum and teachers and parents avoided the “S’ word at all costs. Looked at how I turned out, so it obviously didn’t do me any harm.

My teacher in primary school taught us all about male on male penetrative anal sex, with live examples.

And I didn't turn out any worse for it. Best of luck to them. ?

whats the problem?

At what age is it appropriate to tell children "about sex and relationships"???
It seems that they're old enough to learn about sex and relationships but not old enough to walk or cycle to school on their own.

The end game in this could be akin to parts of the US where you'd be deemed too young to drink alcohol but old enough to own and carry a machine gun to the shops

We were given a sex education talk in school in 6th class. That’s over 20 years ago. It was not during school hours and our parents were there.
