Road Works all over the shop

On my walk in to work this morning I was struck by the number of streets that are restricted or just fully blocked off due to road-works at the moment. I can't remember it ever being so widespread tbh. And in the hope of helping other PROCers avoid unnecessary log-jams because so few of these blockages are flagged in advance here's what I spotted this morning

High Street
Summer Hill South
Sullivans Quay
South Mall
Grand Parade
South Main Street

Was stuck by the number of people working without the requisite PPE. One guy using an angle-grinder in front of The Capitol had ear-defenders - not one of his six colleagues in close proximity did, but no mask or safety glasses. Needless to say none of his colleagues had any masks or safety-glasses either, though all saw the wisdom of high-viz vests and hard-hats.

Anyways, hopefully these roadworks will come to an end soon. Did the digging up of Patrick Street finish by the way - the electronic signs warning of it said it would be finished by August 12th

All advertised in last weeks Examiner giving everybody plenty of notice as well as the longer term ongoing street enhancements and water main works.

Patrick St works were completed early AFAIK.

Rather do these works now than when the schools go back?

Anyway you walked and the city is by-passed and you do not need to drive through the city unless you are going there for business etc.

Must admit I haven't bought the Examiner in well over 10 years.

If you could pass on such road-work alerts here I'd appreciate it, and I suspect there are others on PROC who don't get the Examiner either.

Thanks in advance. (y)

Who does?

But it pops up on their social media feeds and from local online outlets and City Hall.

Only social media I'm on is Twitter/X. And I follow quite a number of Cork things on it. I confess I'd not seen any notice of such an amount of roadworks.

BTW, what's going on at the top of South Mall - where the monument to the Cork 1st Brigade was - across the river from Charlies Phoenix etc. There's been a huge clearance there - looks way wider than anything to do with excavating pipes, unless of course they've forgotten where they actually laid the pipes I suppose

twitter is just a right-wing sewer.

Avoid.

The works at the top of the Mall are for the Morrisons Island re-vamp.

What social media apps do you recommend instead of twitter - which admittedly has gone rapidly downhill since it became X

Where does one see what is in mind for the Morrisons Island re-vamp?

And any update on when Bishop Lucy Park is going to reopen, and when/if there'll be a name change?
