Pubs reopening June 29th

I did my good deed for the day there in town.

I was coming out of Tesco Express and two lads were trying to get into the Oval, but it was closed (even though Google says it opens at 1).

I told them it was closed and they asked was there anywhere else good to go. Turns out they're from Argentina, flew into Cork this morning and are going to Dublin at 5pm, but wanted to have their first pints of Guinness before the bus.

I was going to the market anyway so I brought them in, showed them around and told them the history of it and the Mutton being brought in. Then I brought them through the door by Tom Durcans and down Mutton Lane. The two lads were absolutely thrilled, it was exactly what they were after. They asked would I come for a pint but I'd to go back to work. I should have just necked a quick one in hindsight.

So I did my bit for Cork tourism, made two lads' day, and put a few quid in Bennys pocket.

I really am a top guy.

On your point of the oval being closed I’ve had a similar experience many a time. On a weekday I’d be looking to head in for a few quiet ones around 13:00/14:00 and to my disappointment it has been closed more often than not.

Yes Benny would really want to sort that out.

It's all well and good having the finest selection of racing pubs in the land, but not much use if they're not open at the times they're meant to be.

I shudder to think how these lads would have remembered their trip to Cork had I not been there to save the day.
