Crime wasn't rampant. Drugs use was all soft in Cork. The church's influence was waning but we still had a more caring and I suppose spiritual society. It was ok to be gay but we still were miles away from the cancel culture we have now. Socialising was great, still good pubs and not too dear. Clubs and music was pretty good, live music scene in Cork was hopping. People were able to get jobs so young people stayed.

90s in Ireland was similar in its ground breaking effect on the country to the 60s here for a lot of the same reasons.

Republic of Ireland: Legislation decriminalising homosexuality

The Government of the Republic of Ireland has just published the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Bill 1993, which will repeal the existing law forbidding homosexual acts and introduce provisions prohibiting such acts with persons under 17 years. Current legislation is in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights because it allows for the prosecution of consenting adults engaging in homosexual acts in private.
 
If you believe some people these days people havent a cent to their name, of course we have some people who are in dire straits financially but by and large people are doing ok, one look at the amount of people enjoying outdoor dining and drinks confirm as much, and long may it continue, likes of mick barry and co have spent the last few years warning of a tsunami of repossesions, hasnt happened,
