Philippines : Better or Worse

I'v been visiting Philippines since 2003. I have just returned from my family holiday there after six years.
What a change. Nobody trying to scam you. Taxi drivers and trisikade drivers charging regulated fare. Safer walking the streets. No one offering prostitutes or drugs. Wow, I was sceptical about Mr Duterte, but when I was there ... he has made a real difference.
When my Fililpina wife was talking about this great politician I was saying " Yeah whatever, saw it all before".
When I actually saw it ... okay I was wrong.

I know several fillipana nurses here in cork and all have 2 or 3 apartments in Metro-Manilla.

Have been to the Philippines many times myself over the last 9 years. When I first went only the place was rampant with prostitution, especially in Manilla. Last time I was there was a year and a half ago and there had been a huge change. Now I had not gone to all the same parts of Manilla I went to befoee but there was certainly a big difference in places I had been. Even some of the islands had zero prostitution on them. It’s shows that ruling with an iron fist (zero tolerance policy) does work when done the right way for the right reasons. Sometimes it has to be done. He has had a huge impact.
