Nuclear war and how to survive it

I though it might be a good idea to start a thread on prepping for a nuclear war, where we could share tips on surviving a nuclear blast and the fall out associated with such a blast or blasts. We could look to Japan and see how they dealt with the WW2 nuking they got.
It seem to me living in the northern hemisphere is not ideal tbh, so moving to South Africa might be a plan.
Stock piling dried foods, tinned foods and water is paramount.
Duct tape, tin foil, sheets of plastic and iodine tablets would come in handy too.
Heating oil, petrol, coal, turf, wood, will all become very valuable.
Guns or any weapons, compound bows, swords, knives will become essential for survival, people will want your stuff and will do anything to get it.
How do we purify radioactive water and how long would it take the soil to become fertile again and is there anything we can do to speed up the process.

apparently Cork is in the firing line.
Blast radius would take out most of city and harbour.
Moving to west Kerry might be an idea.

Here we can see the harbour at Nagasaki before and after the blast, quite the difference.

Lastly, we have a pic of Nagasaki harbour today, after 77 years it looks much better than in did before the bomb.

Surely South Africa is more civilised than west Kerry.

Why is Cork in the firing line?

Is it because of those fucking fishermen protesting the missile testing south of us?

Tinned foods will typically last up to 6 years after the best before date, PH balanced foods will survive longer than say tinned tomatoes which are a little too acidic. Spam, corned beef and tinned sausages are PH balanced, so a must for anyone who planned on surviving a nuclear fall out. Man can't live on beans alone.

What about tinned tuna?

These windup radios are the job, if radio is still being transmitted they would be handy to find out what's going on in the world if and when we have power outs. They also have flash lamps built in and even mobile phone chargers, very handy. Though I would have added a can opener and a 50,000 volt stun gun.

My history teacher told us the Ruskies have a nuke aimed at Cork cause of the harbour.

AFAIK the Russians have a nuke aimed at every major city on the planet, that would indeed put Cork on the hit list. Pity Irish news readers and MEPs couldn't have been a bit more civil to the Russian Ambassador. Shutting down dialog, no matter how bad that dialog was is never a good idea.
