It seems like this fella hasn't a leg to stand on in terms of the severity and unprovoked nature of the alleged assault up in Limerick.

Will he actually get an appropriate punishment or are we likely to get the "Good GAA family" and "never been in trouble before" lines?

He may well be, but he is entitled to the fact that he has no prior convictions (if that is the case) to be taken into account in his sentencing.
