Junior A Hurling Championship 2023

Kilshannig are a team on the ascendancy in both codes. A serious well of talent there, strong and very fit. I do think Clyda will be the team to beat in North Cork though. Glanworth don't seem to be the force they once were and if Condon is held or has a bad day they really struggle.

I agree. It is looking like Kilshannig are finding their groove again this year. Similar to last year, they began the year with injuries and lads away but as the campaign went on, more players became available and they got stronger and ended up in 2 County finals. It is now looking like they are the team to beat again this year. They've put a huge amount of effort into both codes as well as their S&C and it is showing now.

On Dromina, they seem to be a club that have stagnated a bit at this level. They won the 2014 North Cork Final and famously beat Ballyhooly by a late goal in 2017 but they haven't made a final since. Take out the 2 Buckleys, Davy Jones and 2 or 3 others and their age profile is fairly high. They do have Johnny Murphy and Chris Dunne to come in next year who will help them stay competitive at this grade.

I agree with others here saying that Clyda Rovers will be next favourites to Kilshannig. Conor Corbett seems to be hurling well for them and they have Ben Nyhan who is a year older now. But LC Gaels are a club ticking nicely too. Thry beat Clyda in the North Cork U21 B Final a few weeks ago. They will take stopping too. Glanworth are the best of the rest then. Davy Pyne and Thomas Condon will be back from suspension and Seán Finn is nursing an injury. With a full compliment, they will be in with a shout too.

Charleville's 2nd team aren't as strong this year. Danny O' Flynn has recommited to their seniors and the likes of Jack Buckley and Tim Hawe are back full time with the seniors. Mark Kavanagh is out injured too. They would have been dark horses otherwise.

Ballyhooly without Seán Linehan, Darragh O' Reilly, James Roche and Barry Johnson, have to be ruled out of contention. They still have a chancecto get out of the group but they have to come up against a dogged Shanballymore side. Killavullen have been this coming team the last few years. The talent is there but the mentality to close out games isn't there yet. They could still beat Dromina which will be an interesting game in the final round of that group.

Dromina were very poor, apart from the long puck outs in first half they showed no attacking threat at all. Kilshannig backs were well on top. Dromina look like a team going backwards and will end up Junior B in next 3/4 years.

Kilshannig were as expected physical and fit, not blessed with a team full of natural hurlers but were well above Dromina last night and should have won by more.

The 2 red cards were a joke, linesman trying to be centre of attention again instead of letting the ref deal with it. There was nobody from either side calling for a red card after what happened.

Depending on the draw I would predict a Kilshannig and Clyda final with Kilshannig winning it.

Half time in Ballinlough. Whitechurch 2-12 Dillon’s 0-07. Dillon’s are very poor. Whitechurch full of running and have had a few wides. Dillon’s dropped a good few shots into keepers hand.

Dromina 11 points
Kilshannig 3.14

Poor game.
Dromina showing us that they crumble under any real pressure. Fairly gutless from them.

Ciaran o regan(linesman) then decided to inform the ref to send one from each side off over handbags. Completely baffling decision.

Overall kilshannig will be delighted to be through with a game to spare. Dromina will have it all to do to beat Killavullen on this showing.
If they were more interested in hurling than the off the ball stuff they'd be far better off.

Completely bullied by kilshannig in the 2nd half.

They'll have a big say in the north cork with so many players returning.
Dromina must be also concentrating on the football this year!

🤣 look at doneraile their neighbours similar size catchment area same size town and are shocking in both codes atm. At least buttevant are having some success in Football
It is a shame to see Doneraile in such turmoil. They look like the one club who could fold in the next few years. From having such an excellent football team in the 80s and 90s with plenty of representatives on Cork teams and also an excellent hurling team in the 00s, it is hard to fathom how they have gone so bad. Was it down to poor committees in the last 10 years or what? I do hear that there is a lot of social issues too that has affected any progression for young prospects to stay playing after 18 years of age.
