Junior A Hurling Championship 2023

Nemo lost the first round of the city championship and came back to win the whole county, good going from them, dug it out when it mattered in the end.

Will be interesting how they fare next year, football will naturally take precedence which should make a difference to their hurlers, balancing both will be more difficult given the format, they haven't had a hurling group stage in the city championship to contend with yet and the Junior A championships run longer than others, allowing players back, so next year will be a different kind of challenge for them.

The Junior A champions have won the Premier Junior at the first go the past two seasons, can't see Nemo doing the same given their football commitments, but the momentum may be there so I wouldn't be shocked either, I thought Erin's Own wouldn't do it this year either and they showed me.

Junior A championship will be interesting next season too, seems to be even enough.

Tracton will be one of the favourites coming down, but I don't think they're that far ahead of the top Junior A teams given what I've seen of Premier Junior, should be strong favourites in the south east though.

High hopes for our own lads in Ballinora as I reckon we're not too far off county wise, Grenagh should be the biggest threat in mid Cork and almost caught us this year.

Newmarket/Dromtarriffe will probably remain the top 2 in Duhallow and I imagine whoever comes out there won't be too far either.

Several sides in Avondhu who can be a threat on their day, definitely the toughest to call, and whoever gets out will be a threat in the county.

Imokilly seems to have weakened a bit, Carraig na bhFear looked the weakest east Cork winners I've seen in a few years, only 3 first teams left in the division can't be helping either, could be easily proven wrong here though, Cobh and Ita's being the other two.

Don't expect too much from Carbery sides county wise after seeing Clon this year, a lot of the teams strength here could be dictated by football performances however.

Vincent's could be frontrunners in the city, beat Nemo this year initially before being knocked out in their second meeting, thought Whitechurch would be better but collapsed against Nemo in the final. Passage were another name that was thrown around a bit in recent years but got well beaten by Whitechurch.

Different era now in terms of dual clubs but it's largely forgotten that Nemo were a solid hurling club for a long time, 4/7 AI wins came with them playing senior hurling.

3 semi appearances from 72 to 75 and beat the great Glen 70s team in 74 and ran Blackrock close another year. Not a top tier side given the era but they certainly were part of those on the rung below the big 3 at that time.

In 78 a scuffle with Bandon led to a hurling championship ejection and subsequently saw the football team protest by declining to accept the cup after winning the county the same year.

Eventually they fell back a grade in the mid 80s and have never really risen back up since. Masters is probably the best hurler in the club since Brian Murphy and had he played for a club that prioritised hurling he would have had a good senior career.

Utter scutter from some posters here all year. All reps from their divisions were their first hurling teams and didn't let their clubs down. I went to all the county section games including Saturdays final and both clubs gave everything in a cracking game. It's the hardest grade to win and get out of. Harbour Rovers were the better team in the final but its a result game business.

In the 70s Nemo were just outside the top 3 clubs. The politics led to Nemo focusing on the football, much to Corks loss in hurling.

A super win for Nemo. In a tight game I’d have fancied them to find a way and pull through. A tough result for Harbour Rovers again.

I see the county draws were made last night. Bit out there, but does anyone know when the Junior B County Hurling Championship Draw (Groups) will be announced. Cheers.

They said on the stream that they will wait until spring to do the junior b and junior c draw so as not to put pressure on those teams who might yet know if they’ll have the numbers to field a team
