Junior A Football 2023

That was the third time I've seen Killavullen play in Championship this year and it was the most impressed I've been with them. They're very solid defensively and didn't give our lads the chance to get the running game going. Cute tactical found out the field and solid tackling when we brought it into contact with them.
Birchill the free taker was very good, kicked some absolute beauties.
Our lads just didn't come out in the second half, we squandered an early goal chance in the second half and didn't score again until for about 20 minutes. Thought Killavullen weren't ruthless enough though, they'll need to be against Charleville. They handpassed 3 goal chances over the bar, and they were blatant one on one chances. I understand you've to keep the board tipping over but they could have finished the game off earlier. Still the fact they won without taking them shows their dominance. Liam Cronin was very influential at centre back also, won a lot of his own kickouts with great movement.
Predicting a low scoring final as both teams are very solid at the back + nerves of the occasion.
Fancied Charleville from the get go and I'll stick to my guns with that. Should be a great final though

Good report thanks for that. I got a message 12-15mins into 2nd half saying game over & that Killavullen were totally dominating since 10 mins before HT when LC had got a good goal to get them back into the game just as Kvn were about to run away with.
After the game message says Killavullen won the 2nd half 12 points to 2!!
Charleville had a big win in their semi over the weekend too. They racked up a big score too. Their half back line, midfield and half forward line score a huge amount. A physical strong side who really use the dark arts. They play on the edge and were supposed to be haunted not to have 1 if not 2 red cards. A few in the crowd almost invaded the pitch over 1 horrendous decision. Because they don’t play a huge amount of football their timing of the tackle and shoulder charge especially can be off.
It has the potential to be a classic Avondhu final.
I also expect super football finals in Muskerry and Carbery too. The Junior football and hurling championships continue to throw up super games every weekend.

Two Semi Finals played in the Mid Cork at the weekend:

Inniscarra 1-9 v 8 Eire Og: Wasn't at the game myself but heard it was a very close encounter which could of went either way. Eire Og won a penalty in the last 5 minutes when trailing by 3 but sent the ball wide of the left hand post subsequently Scarra went up and got the insurance score but could've easily went to extra time. Going off Inniscarra's twitter there was a number of changes before a ball went in, both midfielders out which meant SO'D was named in midfield. Scarra will be happy to be in a mid cork final again after their last appearance in 2015 where they lost to Uibh Laoire.

Canovee 14 v 4 Aghinagh: Was in attendance in Macroom where I expected there to be more of a crowd. Canovee went up by 5 before Aghinagh registered. In all honesty game looked over after 15 minutes. Canovee played the majority of the game in second gear, Aghinagh battled but failed to register scores, couple of bad wides from frees and shots from scorable positions at crucial stages of the game. Canovee got a man black carded coming up to half time and that same player got a yellow about 3 minutes after his return meaning Canovee played nearly a full 30 minutes with 14 men and Aghinagh didn't really capitalize or get any period of dominance. Aghinagh player then got a black card which ended any hope of a comeback. Aghinagh's main man was well marshalled by Eoghan Lehane who didn't give him a sniff. No standout player from Canovee just good players all over the pitch and a well balanced young side, huge potential going forward.

I was in Macroom and was surprised and very disappointed with Aghinagh. I thought this game would be a cracker. Hard to gauge how good Canovee are based on this. Hopefully the final will be better.

Previous years Aghinagh gathered momentum winning close championship games. This year it looked more like they stumbled past teams.
No doubt they train hard and are well drilled but 1/2 injuries and I don't think the quality is there to replace.

Agree but I don’t think they had any new blood either and same faces last few years . Barry , Ambrose , Corkery were the backbone of the team when they won the mid cork as well as Twohig who did majority of scoring.

Corkery only used as sub this year but must be nearer 40 than 35 and Barry seems to be a shadow of when he played CB . I was very disappointed with their performance sun evening but as I said maybe canovee are a grade above them and I don’t think they would be out of place in premier junior and I fancy them to be playing there next year .

Killavullen are doing things right as a club and are improving the whole time. Would love to see them win it. Unfortunately I think Charleville are operating at a different level. Don’t think it’s going to be all that close
