Is it just me or are sentences getting much harsher lately? Some guy was locked up for 10 months for telling his ex he'd upload pictures of her online. How in a free society can that even be a crime? That's a Helen McEntee law if there was ever one.
That said, that insurance wan deserves her sentence.

That said, that insurance wan deserves her sentence.

The Harassment, Harmful Communications and Related Offences Act 2020 came into force in February 2021. It provisions for two new offences dealing with the non-consensual distribution of intimate images.

1. The first offence deals with the distribution or publication, or threat to distribute or publish intimate images without consent, and with the intent to cause harm to the victim. It carries a maximum penalty of an unlimited fine and/or seven years' imprisonment.
2. The second offence deals with the taking, distribution or publication of intimate images without consent even if there is no specific intent to cause harm to the victim. It carries a maximum penalty of €5,000 fine and/or 12 months' imprisonment.

I'm not saying it's not a bad thing to do but a crime warranting a sentence of 10 months? Guys like Eddie Halvey got a suspended sentence for killing a 16 year old while drink driving. Plenty of guys with child porn images get suspended sentences. Hurling boy Kyle Hayes gets a suspended sentence for fracturing some dude's eye socket in an unprovoked attack. Meanwhile your man gets locked up in a hellhole for ten months.
