Heimir Hallgrímsson Ireland Football Manager

Worth its own thread in keeping with past managers.

A draw would probably be considered a great result given the gap in quality. Ireland huge odds for the win.

Hopefully he plays a decent style. We don't need to be bus parking. Fresh start, looking forward to it.

He comes across well in the interviews and media appearances to date. Is definitely a breath of fresh air compared to listening to Stephen Kenny. Hopefully things improve to a degree on the pitch, I wouldn't be expecting 'expansive' football under him. I'd say he'll be emphasising putting players behind the ball and defending resolutely and trying to hit teams on a break/counter, and making the most of set pieces as opportunities. Won't be pretty but if it gets results I won't be complaining.

I have my waffleometer currently set to 0 after a few years of it bursting into flames after each irish game under Kenny's tenure

let us hope it stays there

Absolutely, I actually always enjoyed watching Ireland and would be more passionate about supporting them than a premiership team, but under Kenny I really went off watching them, and the free ticket he got off the media in Ireland was outrageous. Loss after loss and it was being sold that we were making progress towards this innovative new style of football that was going to have us regularly competing at the knock out stages of tournaments.

Sorry about the long reply, I've probably set off your waffleometer 🤣🤣
