Cyclists

I don't think anyone is arguing against a cycle path in the area, it IS however typical of the council planning to railroad this kind of infrastructure and to hell with a long established business in the area which is of course a huge asset to the people of Glounthuane and the surrounding area.

Just the usual handful of zealots arguing otherwise.
Time will tell with the path I guess. I work in the Carrigtwohill IDA and there's definitely more people starting to use it. Hopefully all works out and ultimately more bread and cakes can be sold.

Fitzpatricks does most of its business in lunchtime Sandwiches and rolls.

A lot of the businesses in Little Island use the place.

I'd say the Applegreen in Carrig has taken a nice bit of business from that side.

I take it from you suggesting doing your shopping in Mahon that you don't live in the Glounthuane/Carrig area?

I have gone to Fitzpatricks from time to time myself, not a bad sandwich tbf.

I just work in the area, live in the city. I have cycled to work a bit, especially during covid but Tivoli is a nightmare again.

Fair enough. Cycling to work just isn't practical for me.

I only ask as anyone I've spoken to living in the area has told me they think the new parking set up there is a disaster and its put them off going there at lunchtime.

They just go to the Applegreen in Carrig or the Spar in little Island as both have ample parking.

I've sympathy for the O'Neills who run Fitzpatricks, as was already mentioned their business is there 80 years.
They've tried to engage with the council on this and I doubt they're lying about the negative impact on their business.

No ones against cycleways , I just think this could have done in a fashion that wasn't as damaging to their business.

Fair enough, change can be difficult but it's also inevitable. Successful businesses change with the times, let's hope when the path is finished that Fitzpatricks ultimately benefit from it.

Personal transport will always create issues: cavemen used to complain about guys using horses and those new fangled "wheel" cart thingys.

Then we had the whole horse versus tram fiasco, with the horses dumping shite all over the streets and people with bicycles cycling through horse shit.

Then we had the new fangled horseless carriages spooking the horses.

Now we have the whole bicyclists versus motorised vehicles, shite.

On top of all this we have the brainless morons who pay real money to embarrass themselves by "driving" around in Asian pieces of shite masquerading as "cars" or even "SUVs."

These are usually High and Dry Tuck Shops, or Knees Up Qumquats or even Toy Yoda Arses.

But in the midst of all this personalised transportation kerfuffle we should pause and remember that we are ALL on a conveyor belt which is a one way trip towards the grave.

And there is no point in getting wound up about who did what where to who.

Life is too short.
