Cork Hurlers - Part 2

Fellas here are so negative ffs. Youd swear Cork were knocked out in Munster again. They were a puck of a ball away in an all ireland final having beaten arguably the best team ever twice this year in absolute classics. Of course, they need to be ruthless and continue to progress with the rest but wholesale changes dont need to be made. Little tweaks here and there will have Cork in good stead to make it to the very latter stages again. Cork have serious options now all over the field. As good a full back/centre back combo as in any county. A strong wing back in Joyce who would get on every other team in the country. A very strong midfield and forwards who everyone would want. Youd have to trust this management will get it right as theyve shown serious progress from year 1 to year 2 and if that progress continues we will be very happy men this time next year.

I'd be thinking 1-9 will pretty much be the same with maybe one position up for grabs in the forwards. Might come down to tactics with opposition, who's in form, etc. Obviously that's also dependent on no long term injury. Hopefully a few lads push on in the league.

After all the criticism Patrick Collins got over a couple of years, there's very little debate over No1 these days.

Fair play to him.

It is farcical Limerick receiving 4 but as I already stated there is much more than meets the eye.
For fun can you explain the "much more to this that's meets the eye" bit.
Maybe you didn't see the hardest won munster championship in years which limerick won .
Also limerick beaten by cork twice in two cracking games but also beat the all ireland winners twice so there were plenty top class games to judge performances.
Kk if any county could feel aggrieved as they won leinster but the standard of games there this year didn't help them

Limerick will be back better then ever this year that’s why 2024 was a huge chance missed for cork, it was missed as too many players failed to deliver and a set plan of subs with only one actually delivering.
Cork have 2 positions in the defence that need serious review, clare and limerick prioritise defenders, I don’t care how much ball a fella hits lovely down the wing I want a defender who will do what it takes to stop a goal.
Our subs were telegraphed outside O’Connor who was not suitable for that game, Kingston had zero form since the limerick group game.
There’s no need for wholesale change for a tweak or 2 won’t suffice, cork got out of Munster this year as the play book was fucked out the window after the disastrous Waterford selection/ tactics , we’ll see if there is further development but the history of modern cork hurling is that the likelihood is 2024 was a flash in the pan

Too many players failed to deliver? Cork got 5 all stars. You talk about Clare and Limerick as if they were unbeleiveable defensively this year. Cork scored 3-24 and 1-34 against Clare in 2 games and lost by an aggregate of 3 points. They scored 3-28 and 1-28 against Limerick and won by an aggregate of 4 points. I am absolutely not saying that Cork didnt have some underperforming players during the year. O Donoghue and O Leary (especially the former) both were not as solid as previous years. Coleman took a while to get back to himself after injury. Connolly didnt hit the heights of his Munster form in the AI series whcih was disappointing but he was picked for special marking and will learn from it. Horgan wasnt also as effective though still proved hugely important in moments.

Of course as I said, there can be improvements. But even the best always have improvements to be made. I just think Cork arent far away at all. A few more additions to the squad will keep everything tipping over. Its clearly not a given theyll make it out of munster (as its not for any team) but Cork are absolutely now in the top 3 in the country. I get where you are coming from about modern history etc but I feel this is different and a very solid foundation has been laid now to build on for the coming years.

i wouldnt be so sure limerick will be better than ever
they will be good but Finn hannon Byrnes Donoghue Tom Morrissey Lynch and Flanagan are nowhere near what they were.
Are the players there to replace even half of them ?

I doubt it.
