I recommend to do what I did and take the old road around Abbeyleix and get back on the m8 at Portlaoise.
Never got stuck in traffic once.
However from Portlaoise on the road is full of cars.

I could t deal with the idea of being stuck in a traffic jam I didn’t know how long I’d be getting out of so struck out from Kerry just before 7am. The cars at the toll were 25-30 deep when I got it at around 9am, must be carnage now because you can’t get to the express lane when it backs up

Exit at the Urlingford turn coming up do not use the M8 services exit as the road to Abbeyleix from it is fairly shit.

Coming back Exit at junction 17 M7 to old road
