Cork Hurlers - Part 2

There’s a certain truth in that. I think maybe I worded my post poorly.

What I was getting at is that if he is our go to man in 2024 and beyond then all those young players we’ve so much hope for are maybe not as good as we think. He’ll need to be replaced in the next 2/3 years at the very most anyway.
Most of those younger players aren't contending to start in the FF line. Apart from Hoggy you're looking at O'Flynn and Connolly as the obvious options. I'd like Power to be in the mix as well, but he received little enough chance in last year's championship, and his injury has come at a very bad time for him. Jack O'Connor's form has gone off a cliff since 2021 (part of that being the injury he picked up that winter). Cotter is totally unproven at this level. Barrett could play in the FF line but more likely if he is picked it will be further out the field.

More generally, it's a bit annoying to see these discussions framed in terms of Hoggy being Cork's go-to man or carrying the forwards. Provided he stays fit and in decent form he has plenty to offer, but I think it unlikely that he will start every round robin match. Personally I would rather he was held in reserve, unless he could be matched with a less mobile defender. Bringing him on with twenty-five minutes to go in a tight match would add a lot of confidence and know-how to Cork's attack, with less danger of burning him out.

Shane Barrett had a great year at midfield for Blarney and outhurled Brian Roche. He’s also in the mix for midfield b

Completely agree there.

I think Darragh Flynn has a lot to offer disappointed if hes gone a very good free taker as well , also Sam Quirke tough on him as well tough biut of stuff both these lads have 2 u20 All Ireland medals....Padraig Power is injured as ye say.

Connolly Flynn and Hoggy inside

Harnedy Cunningham TOM on the 40
Cant play those three inside, no way. Three man inside lines are going away with the dinosaur, proven to be way less effective than two and the way it’s going it could be one inside in the future with emphasis on flooding the middle on the rise.
Works 10 time harder for the team than Hoggie though.
In completely different positions and roles.
