Cork GAA club draws 2020 & Formats

These draws & groups being made tomorrow night.

Interesting stuff on the website today that explains how things will work.

Think tomorrow nights draws will be interesting, definitely a bit of added spice when you could be potentially drawn in a very difficult group

Interesting piece in document, think that a good way of doing it. Less waiting around for particular clubs

Therefore the following is now proposed and will be considered by the CCC when scheduling games.

In a four team group with three games each:
Game 1 would take place in April;
Game 3 would take place in August;
Game 2 would take place in July if neither Team had County Senior players
Game 2 would take place in August if either team had County Senior players

Senior County Players Involved

Yes

No

2020 Seeding Ranking Club Total
A 1 Glen Rovers 460
A 2 Midleton 285
A 3 Blackrock 260
B 4 Erins Own 240
B 5 Sarsfields 170
B 6 St. Finbarr's 160
C 7 Douglas 125
C 8 Na Piarsaigh 120
C 9 Bishopstown 95
D 10 Newtownshandrum 90
D 11 Carrigtwohill 75
D 12 Ballyhea 35

Groups will be one A B C D team per group

So the likes of Newtownshandrum would be a strong D team to add to a group

You could potentially have a group like following depending on luck of draw

Glen
Sars
Douglas
Newtown

Should be some tasty games next year. And with 3 to qualify should reduce dead rubber games

This should make our club championships great ...

Think it should definitely help

At last the games in April are more important than they have been in previous years and I think with 3 to qualify in each group the majority should still have something to play for entering the final group game

another very good thing about this is it would allow college students who want to go abroad for a few months to head off in early May after the exams are finished and they could be back by the end of June or start of July having had the bones of 2 months abroad and still be back for the championship. This way everyone is happy, players are not losing out on the opportunity to travel when they are young enough and clubs can have their players back for when they need them. Today there is a huge risk of many clubs losing players who want to go away on J1s etc and if many of these players had the chance to still go abroad but come back early to play championship they would take it

What about the J1’s that will play abroad and then won’t be eligible for their clubs unless their clubs make the latter end of the championship

Once their sanction is granted they will have 60 days for which they'll be ineligible to play with their home club. So if a guy goes in middle of May he'll be available to play in the middle of July. Some lads might miss one game alright though possibly.
