Christmas Driving

There really are some useless motherfuckers around at the moment. You are putting your life in your hands just heading out for a pint of milk this time of year šŸ˜®

Monday night just before 10pm driving up to traffic lights by turners x church intending to turn right on the curragh rd..lights go green I slowly moved off...a bus as far back as John Banks tyres coming down douglas road just picked up speed and flew through the red lights onto evergreen Rd...anticipated what driver was going to do so flashed my lights continuously thinking driver might realise what he was doing and stop..if I had turned thinking bus was gonna stop I'd say it was all over with speed bus was going...absolutely crazy šŸ¤Æ

Waste of time complaing also because it goes straight in the bin. Iā€™ve seen buses fly through the lights many times. You shake your head and drive on as it goes on and on. Mind you, half the car drivers in the City do exactly the same.

My biggest concern isnā€™t speed, itā€™s elderly drivers where I live and my kids out cycling/walking. I see it regularly, older drivers completely oblivious and driving straight through red lights doing 30 or 40kph. Happened me walking the mutt the other night again, the aul fella even gestured to me for crossing the road without waiting as he saw it! Thatā€™s fine when itā€™s me as I am on the watch for it, my kids wouldnā€™t be though :(

Drove the m50 this morning 630 dropping the brother to airport. It's a complete lottery ,jammed even at that early stage coming up to 7 ,travelling in middle lane of 3 southbound on way back home and a van cut in sharp left then again and exited at think junction 12. Came across 4 lanes in nearly 1 manoeuvre absolute madness .number of people on phones looking at phones and big looking screens on dash is nuts . There are speed control messages on the gantries to try and control traffic flow ,ie 60 or 80 totally being ignored .

In December 1978, Chris Rea felt ā€œit was all up for meā€. Heā€™d released his debut album ā€” Whatever Happened to Benny Santini? ā€” that summer but he wasnā€™t happy with the mix. He was being dropped by his manager and his recording contract was up. Heā€™d been banned from driving and his record company wouldnā€™t pay for a train ticket to get him home to Middlesbrough.

So his wife, Joan, drove down the M1 in the coupleā€™s beaten-up old Mini to collect him (and their last remaining Ā£220 in cash) from Abbey Road Studios and take him home for Christmas. On the way back it started snowing. They got stuck outside Nottingham, waiting for a snowplough to clear drifts from the road.

ā€œWe kept getting stuck in traffic,ā€ Rea told The Guardian in 2016. ā€œIā€™d look across at the other drivers, who all looked so miserable. Jokingly, I started singing: ā€˜Weā€™re driving home for Christmasā€¦ā€™ Then, whenever the street lights shone inside the car, I started writing down lyrics.ā€

After a six-hour journey, the couple made it through their front door at 3am. ā€œIt was so cold inside the house that the snow tumbled on to the doormat and didnā€™t melt,ā€ recalled Rea. There was one letter on the mat from a US performing rights organisation. It turned out that his song ā€œFool (If You Think Itā€™s Over)ā€ had charted across the pond and there was a cheque for Ā£15,000. ā€œWe went from being down to our last Ā£220 to being able to buy a house,ā€ he said.
