A native of Korea, Okkyung Lee has been developing her own voice in a contemporary cello performance and improvisation. Using her classical training as a springboard, she incorporates jazz, sounds, Korean traditional music, and noise with extended techniques.</p><p></p><p>[yt]nmU7eesu_NM[/yt]</p><p></p><p>Since moving to New York in 2000, she has performed and recorded with numerous artists such as <strong>Derek Bailey, Jaap Blonk, Nels Cline, Anthony Coleman, Mark Dresser, Shelley Hirsch, Susie Ibarra, Vijay Iyer, Eyvind Kang, Alonzo King, Christian Marclay, Raz Mesinai, Min Xiao-Fen, Thurston Moore, Ikue Mori, Lawrence D. “Butch” Morris, Jim O’Rourke, Zeena Parkins, Marc Ribot, Marina Rosenfeld, Elliott Sharp and John Zorn </strong>to name a few.</p><p>Okkyung holds dual bachelor’s degrees in film scoring/contemporary writing & production from Berklee College of Music, and master’s degree in contemporary improvisation from New England Conservatory of Music.</p><p></p><p>Also on the bill is an exciting duo comprising of <strong>Mick O' Shea</strong> (The Quiet Club/Strange Attractor) and <strong>Emil Nerstrand</strong> (Swedish saxophonist now based in Cork). O' Shea and Nerstrand recently worked together on an improvised soundscape for the Arts Council of Ireland backed experimental feature film HE (2012) by Rouzbeh Rashidi. This will be their first live performance together.</p><p></p><p>To complete the line-up, we are very proud to be able to show some work from <strong>Dean Kavanagh</strong>, an independent, avant-garde, low/no- budget filmmaker from Ireland. An active filmmaker from an early age, Dean began to favour more ‘visual stories’ and from 2006 onwards he began to reduce conventional narrative elements. In 2008 Dean was discovered by independent Iranian filmmaker Rouzbeh Rashidi. From then, Dean concentrated on experimental filmmaking.
