Bishop Eamonn Casey.

I don't know much about the man except that there was a groundswell of support for him and against the Annie Murphy at the time. I suppose that ties in well with a country that consistently votes for one political party, whatever the social changes.

Was he originally from Cork or Galway? If the former, it would be interesting to know where from exactly. (Okay smartasses, I'll just look it up on Wikipedia. and will report back on my inevitable mild surprise.)
🤔
Originally from Kerry afaik. Back then he was popular which led to the anti Annie Murphy attitude, particularly in Galway.

He's from Fries outside Killarney. Had a brother or sister living by the Lough at one stage and that is the extent of his links to the Rebel County I believe.

Lets be fair, Casey was a brilliant, God-fearing man and an Irish patriot.
All brilliant and powerful men take concubines. Why should Casey be any different?
All these attacks only came after his passing - cause you can't slander the dead.

He was very much alive when accusations were made against him about being a paedophile. And the fact that as a bishop he was knobbing people means it's pretty unlikely he was God-fearing.

I was remembering one particular episode of Da Late Late Show, hosted Gaybo himself there like. Happy to be corrected if my recollection is off.
With Annie Murphy on, yeah I remember that. I remember being at a Wales Ireland weekend in Cardiff and hearing loads of requests for Eamon Casey to meet Annie Murphy in the hotel bar.

It was normal at the time to blame women, probably some people would still blame the floozy from America, because a man couldn't possibly say no.
