Best place you've ever been?

I've spent the weekend making myself depressed by looking back at old photos of my travels. Brazil, Korea, Russia, Canada, everywhere in Europe.

I think for a City you can't really beat Toronto or Vienna. In terms of most beautiful place, the Iron Gates in Romania by the Serbian border is probably number one. We were driving from Belgrade to Bucharest for a gig, and I managed to get some sleep in the back of the car. I woke up just as we were driving along by the water through what's known as the "Danube Cauldrons" and it was just breathtaking. It was a Serbian fella driving with no English so I couldn't ask him to stop so I could take photos, which nearly makes it better as the memories are all I have of it.

This is what it was like though -

Toronto is my favourite city. Just love it.

North American buzz but no Americans.

Shame about all the homeless .

It's just the perfect city like. You have your NYC buzz up by Yonge-Dundas Square, but a few minutes down the road and you're on Lake Ontario relaxing. All the districts and the likes of St. Lawrence Market add to the diverse feel of the place.

I couldn't get over the homeless either, you'd have lads just literally lying across the footpath.

Some city, it'd be some place to live if you were in a good job with decent cash. Otherwise it must be a tough place to make ends meet.

I took a few days down in Buffalo once, around 2 hours drive from Toronto. VERY different buzz. I got off the bus and realised there were no other white people around. Heard a weird noise coming up behind me, then realised it was a fella cycling a bike with no tyres.

Vienna. Fab city

Never could warm to Vienna. Just feels way up its own hole. Never been mad about ze Germans though so maybe thats it.

I prefer it further South. Love Spain, Portugal, Southern Italy and Crete. Gallicia, Bilbao, San Sebastian, Costa Brava, Barcelona are all great summer spots.
Andulusia stretching over to Seville and Cadiz, the Amalfi Coast.
Puglia, Sicily and off the beaten track in Crete are all great shoulder season destinations.
