Ben Dunne

What did he say/write to get him into trouble?

The book contains a number of questions about the financing by Ms McDonald and her husband of their current home in Cabra, Dublin. At the time he received the letter last year Mr Ross said there were no allegations of impropriety in the book but it had asked reasonable questions that he said should be answered. Ms McDonald said last year her husband is a private citizen and that every private citizen has a right to vindicate their good name.

An in depth article on IRA arms imports, nowhere does it say that FF imported arms, Blaney and Haughey attempted to do so but the USA and later on Libya were the main sources of IRA weaponry.

I'm sure the Southern Command Quartermaster SoundY will confirm this.

Perhaps you're too young to have heard of the whole Arms Trial saga.

Fianna Fail Ministers aided and abetted the importation of arms which were sent north to the the non-Marxist guys in the RA, the proviso being that the arms wouldn't be used in a coup in the south.

Having a source of weapons was only one part of it, they also needed people to finance it. Working class nationalists in the north didn't have a whole lot of money, and certainly not the wherewithal to buy in loads of guns and ammunition. That was financed by some private individuals and indeed some Irish government funding. Captain Kelly of the Irish Army, who'd been holidaying in the north and had seen the pogroms against nationalists and been reporting back to Irish Army Intelligence thought he was following orders from the Minister. But once it all came to light the Ministers all feigned innocence.

There was a very good podcast series on it a few years back. It might still be online
