2022 Premier Senior football

Douglas were heavily fancied last year before the semi final. Clon weren’t long putting manners on them and settling some old fueds.
Eh, no. Castlehaven and the Barrs would have been more than satisfied to see Douglas go through instead of Nemo from the groups.

Nemo are a better team than Douglas but have in recent years had a tendency to lay an inexplicable clanger every couple of matches and Douglas were able to take advantage of one of those.

Prior and subsequent events have shown that Douglas aren't a top tier side at the moment. 2nd tier maybe but they wont consistently get results against the top sides. You can talk to me about young lads coming through but until they actually come through it doesn't mean much.

There are 3 top clubs in the County over the last few years, Barrs, Nemo and Castlehaven. The rest are chasing shadows but might pull off the odd result against the big 3. Results over the last few years will bear this out.

Nemo must be loving the populist view on the upcoming final next week. The most successful club in Cork football and all that is being talked about is the double.

A club that wins more finals than it loses, have contested 6 of the last 11 finals and won 5, having beaten
their upcoming opponents twice in those years. They do not lose too many of these & tradition counts.

Granted The Barrs are the form team and on paper look stronger but games are not won on paper.

Really looking forward to this one.

Final appearances since 2010 - Titles Won since 2010

Nemo Rangers 6 5
Castlehaven 5 2
St. Finbarrs 4 2
Duhallow 3 0
Ballincollig 2 1
Carbery Rangers 2 1
Clonakilty 1 0
UCC 1 1

True what you say on Nemo's record and there's no doubt they will relish the underdog tag going in.

It's not on paper though that I'd judge things by saying the Barrs should be winning though, it's on performance, squad depth and relative player ability. For me, the Barrs have been the strongest team overall in this competition since 2018. In 2019 they were hit with an insurmountable injury crisis. Nemo beat them in a dour quarter final in the rain but the team in blue that night was a pale shadow of what will line up in 10 days.

True, the Haven beat them on penalties in 2020 and ran them tight enough last year too in a high scoring shootout but I think the Barrs have kicked into another gear this year and have a very strong settled team with good finishers off the bench aswell.

How will the dual players going for the double impact the Barrs? Hard to be sure. Can work either way. They've never beaten Nemo in a final either, but I think they are a different team and won't have much baggage about the past. A game to look forward to though for sure and not a foregone conclusion.

Has Mary Lou or one the Shinners gone on the record and tipped the Barrs? Jesus she’s really got in for Micheál hasn’t she? #obsessed

Or did you mean popular?

There is no talk of the double out in Togher anyway, we are fully aware of the task that is ahead of us on Sunday week. In my eyes Nemo have to be favourites for this, their record alone warrants this plus the fact they have never lost a final to the Barrs. Ok they may not be the greatest team to ever come out of Nemo but if anyone thinks they will roll over for the Barrs they are delusional
