Joe Brolly columns .

The bould Joe, fresh from knocking two podcasts out of the evils of the Pairc about a month ago has used the platform this morning to deliver an impassioned plea about how important it is to build Casement as the GAA in Belfast needs a state of the art stadium.

The bullshitter’s bullshitter. An entertaining bullshitter it must be said, but not to be taken in any way seriously.

Jarlath Burns says the GAA wont up their contribution, He says the 50m govt gave last week was as a result of GAA lobbying the
govt, In other words we wont cough up but the tax payer will,

I think the GAA are giving 20 million and the Irish government 50 million. Considering the IFA and IRFU didn’t have to dig into their pockets for Windsor or Ravenhill the UK government absolutely should step up. If it was to fund blowing up bits of the desert the fuckers would find the money.

Yeah we can point to the great success of stadium development in Cork as a blueprint

I'm pretty sure Ulster Rugby are in almost as much shit as Munster Rugby (but not as bad) in paying their stadium debt. Certainly they made a £1m loss on their accounts last year and are cutting staff/squad.

The bigger issue is giving away 50m to a business in a foreign country, with nothing in return. Any vat receipts go to the UK HMRC.

You’d imagine they will. How embarrassing would it be if the U.K. can’t host a U.K. wide tournament game in their little statelet, or worse, if the NI team qualify and they are forced to play their games in Dublin 😂.
The GAA can always call the bluff of any belligerent’s sectarian misgivings and take the money they’ve already banked and build a no frills 25k stadium for their own association. Tell the english FA that if you want to host tournament games in Belfast then go build your own fucking stadium. A small 25k stadium will satisfy the vast amount of objections re: size, height, road access etc that have been lodged by the locals since day one.
No doubt the narrative would be spun that the GAA and the Irish are to blame for denying access to their vanity tournament in a U.K. statelet.
