Long term poor planning by local authorities building huge swathes of social housing estates rather than mixed developments leading to poor communities and poor social outcomes endemic in a section of society particularly in Dublin and Limerick. Cork not far behind in some areas but it has escaped the worst so far.

The country is at full employment so jobs is not the issue.

This is crime as "entertainment".

If you are starving and are forced to steal food to survive then fair enough but this is just feral criminal behaviour.

Where are the parents?

How do you even police these areas?

You would need hundreds of guards every day.

A criminal minority destroy a neighborhood yet again and you would feel for the decent families trying to raise families in those areas.

The Gardaí get a wage just like the rest of us. Don't become a Guard if it's not for you. It has become a shit job now that people have gotten phones that capture any transgressions and will sue given half a chance. I remember a time when I saw Guards assaulting people whenever they had the opportunity and basically did what they wanted without any fear of anything happening to them. The days of them sleeping off a session in the hospital A&E, covering up drink driving accidents, intimidating people, flashing the badge to get free stuff etc, etc., has come to an end (and rightly so). Being a Guard now is as much paperwork as actual policing and it's the rank of Super. and above will ruin things for anyone who's genuine (as all they care about is covering their ass and getting "de pinshun").

That's probably a correct statement, so therefore the Irish authorities need to fight fire with fire. For example, catch all these scumbags, round them up, convict them and assign them some disgusting work (ie) cleaning toilets, cleaning streets and here's the kicker....video the whole thing and upload it to TikTok/Insta/FB/Youtube...every single unsocial media platform, the whole shabang. That'll soften their cough amongst their peers!!!

Even if the Garda arrested the perps, chances are they're minors so there would be a stack of forms to fill out in quadruplicate, there would be nowhere to put the kids, and as soon as they get in front of a judge they'd be out the door again.
