Serbia is a regional power and neutral the EU needs them not to ally with Russia and the Serbs are doing a good job holding the line, Serbia & Russia are culturally very close they are both Orthodox Christian, speak Cyrillic and are Slavic kinda like UK & US having close connections so I woild not diminsh the Serbs.
Cyrillic is not a language, it’s the alphabet
It’s like saying Ireland speak Latin alphabet

Also Serbia is like Kevin the teenager from Harry Enfield, always one temper tantrum away from blowing up

The balkans is a tinderbox

By saying they are speaking Cyrillic it is implied that they use the Cyrillic language instead of saying Russian because languages like Serbian, Bulgarian & Ukrainian use the same script.

Also loads of Russians have since the war in Ukraine migrated to Serbia and a majority of those Russians in Serbia voted against Putin in the election which goes to show that the country is not just a dependency of Moscow.

No. Cyrillic is a script. If it was a language, then we would be calling Croatian a “Cyrillic” language since it is so close to Serbian, although using Latin script.

Oh my. So now you’re saying that East European languages are all Cyrillic/Slavic?
Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Bosnian, Kazakstan North Macedonian, Montenegrin, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kosovo. Mongolia, Abkhazia & South Ossetia are all Cyrillic speaking countries.

Here is a question on reddit about Cyrillic speaking countries.
