Far-Right Protests in Fermoy

The issue is that even before we started taking in refugees we had, conservatively, 10000 homeless.
We were told for years "we couldn't do anything overnight"
Since 2022 we have taken in nearly 100,000 Ukrainian refugees. The anger is where was this energy and resources pre the war to deal with the Irish homeless crisis.
People are being made millionaires from housing refugees.
How many of them will be friendly with FG politicians/even donate to the party?
Wait a minute, if you want the government to get Doctors and Nurses to return from overseas rather than having foreign ones where are they all going to live? If you think our housing crisis is bad now it’ll be nothing in comparison to having large numbers or Irish people return to exercise their legal right to work and live here.

I think you are missing my point.
The fact that we have to use these locations also indicate we can't take anymore
What percentage of our hotel capacity is being used.
It's a disgrace that proposed locations have been attacked, burned etc.
But the fact we need to use locations like these are an indication of our capacity problems.
Spot on.
Burning them is a disgrace but the fact they need to be used at all, shows we don't have the resources to keep taking people in.
Prendeville told Mehole months ago he'd close the borders and was met with a patronising "where's your empathy?"
Where's the empathy in having a tented village and moving it so the tourists don't see the state the country is in.
Dáil finished yesterday and doesn't sit again until April 9th.

Stop highly qualified Irish people from moving abroad for a few years to travel and work etc?

Only a fully certified moron could come up with that idea.

Our hospitals and nursing homes for example rely on foreign workers.

These doleys sitting in tents all day protesting have way too much time on their hands.

Irish people are amongst the most positive in Europe about immigration.

Three-quarters of us believe that immigrants contribute a lot to our country.

Only Denmark, Luxembourg & Sweden are more positive.

Why would a single Dr or Nurse in their 20s/30s move back to Ireland? The reasons they have left are not always economic. Places like Dubai, Australia etc can offer them a lifestyle we cannot. When you marry and have kids that chance of travelling is gone.
After a few years working in Dubai (tax-free) couples coming back with more than enough cash to buy their house outright.

Dead right to head to Oz for a few years or forever even though it is now hard to find a place to live there as rents have gone through the roof and it is a very expensive place to live but they go for the lifestyle for a bit.

If you do not travel in your 20's you miss out and you will never get that chance again.

That’s not what he’s saying. He’s talking about refugees and people seeking international protection. Your analogy about Spain is wrong. It’s like saying “we shouldn’t let anyone from Kerry move to Cork because Cork is full.”

(Which many people in Cork would wholeheartedly support by the way, but that’s a whole different story.)
So Ireland is not full then. If we’ve space for immigrants we’ve space for refugees. We can’t have it both ways.

The main difference between an EU citizen and a non EU citizen is that non EU citizens need to go through a visa application process to travel here to the EU. Hope that clears things up for you.

Case closed.

Countries such as Algeria, Nigeria, Albania, amongst others should have long ago been deemed 'safe,'

Our unfit for purpose asylum system has been cynically exploited by a flood of economic migrants who are bypassing visa requirements.

I don't blame these people. They just want the higher standard of living on offer in Ireland. Who wouldn't.

Its feckless politicians in Justice and Integration who have let this situation deteriorate into a full blown crisis. Nepotism and batshit crazy ideology combined resulting in a problem that need never need have developed.
