Yeah, educated Protestant moneyed. Trinners, cricket playing. Gave it all up for dirty ole Paris.

Somewhat moneyed I'd say. His old man was a builder (and in fact built the house in question) and his mother was a nurse before they married - so it's hardly aristocracy or senior government officials we're talking about. Don't forget that house was out in the country when it was built. - so it wouldn't have been considered a big deal. It's not a hovel obviously, but not a mansion either. I think the old man had some official capacity at Leopardstown Racecourse too. The building trade went well for Beckett Snr and Sammy B went on to Portora, Trinity, Paris, Pozzo, and immortality.
