The Official Arsenal Thread - Part 2

Arsenal have the 6th/7th best squad in the league. For Arteta to have them still just about in the driving seat for 4th has to be considered a good achievement.

Looking at their starting 11 last night v spurs and you’d wonder how they are even in the conversation for CL.

No European football and out of the cups since January has been a huge help and yet their squad can’t cope with the loss of Partey, Tierney, White.

The replacements are nowhere near the standard required. Holding and Cedric are championship level players. Nketiah and El Neny, Laca and Pepe are bang average.

You’d have to say El T has done very well considering how weak the squad is but then you’d have to say that he’s been there long enough to have built a better squad.

If Arsenal do qualify for the CL they need a huge summer to bolster the squad. The extra games would kill the current squad. Spurs are probably in a better position to cope with the extra demands.

If Arsenal don’t qualify it’ll be a massive opportunity missed given how poor spurs were under Nuno and United’s stinker of a season.

The next 2 games are huge for the short term future of Arsenal and Arteta.

Yerrah if you can't beat Newcastle and Everton you have no business in the CL anyway.

I've always said if you beat the teams you "should" be beating it'll get you top 4 as nearly every year only 3 teams are good enough to be a lock in.

It's no less true this year

A soft penalty and a red card swung the game.

Son elbowed Holding on the ground too but nothing was done.

Considering Arteta needs to pick his team up immediately for a now vital game away to Newcastle I think he was completely right to blame the ref and try to create a feeling of we were wronged, even though deep down he must feel we didn’t deserve anything from the game.

José, a manager Dan is very fond of would have done the exact same.

I disagree , it was a bad night and take the beating and move on. I hate when managers go out and blame the ref , soft penalty yes but he did slightly push him in the back when he didn't need to do so. Son as a player is one of the biggest cheats in the league so was always going to fall. Holding was a fucking idiot . At least now it's simple and we know we have to win the last two games but tbh I feel Newcastle will also beat us as they will want to go out with a victory in their last home game of the season, spurs will win their 2 games . Only hope is burnley also need a win but Norwich aren't good enough to trouble them. No matter what happens at least we finished above the smcs 😀

Meh, outside the top 2 the league has been dreadful this year with Chelsea having the Russian crisis and Spurs and United both sacking their manager mid season.

He has had only the league to concentrate on and is still managing to screw the pooch.

Ole comparisons are very valid in so much that he had a very favourable set of circumstances amongst his rivals.

Add to that falling out with their main striker who is banging them in with Barca.

Hes spent big this year and has at best improved three, four places. All the same frailties are still there.

Hes been a bum appointment and letting him there another year won't change that.

Surprised at some of you.

Son didn't elbow him and Holding should have had at least one yellow by then for which that tackle would have been the red. Holding takes him down, holds him, then throws him over his head, is he not supposed to try and brace his fall? The red was always coming from the moment he kicked him in the ribs. Clearly he was told to rough him up to see if he would react.

The pen was a pen. He gets pushed in the back and from the front. There was no hesitation and all the panel called it as a pen.

I thought Arteta was childish.

But apart from all that - as has been posted loads of times over the last few weeks - points on the board are all that matters. Sky said Spurs have a 39% chance after last night. Arsenal will rip through Newcastle (Arteta will make sure of it) who are on the beach and Everton will be safe on the last day especially if Burnley are beaten by Spurs on Sunday.

This is still in Arsenal's hands. Thought ye were better than this lads, well some of ye anyway.

who knew this squad was very light?

Stupid stuff from Holding. Cedric's shite and despite their decent performances in the last few weeks, the likes of Eddie, El Neny, Tavares, Holding are just squad players that should be used for FA and League Cup games at the very best.

Always a kick in the teeth to lose a derby but Arsenal are still in control of their fate...no doubt Spuds are getting 6 points in their remaining 2 games...no Gabriel by the looks of it, Holding suspended, White not ready, wonder who's going to get to play CB against the bar codes and Everton now, team is already unbalanced with a LB being injured (!)...Arteta will probably look at moving one of El Neny or Xhaka to CB which would further imbalance midfield...it's shit but it is what it is, they don't have the time or luxury to feel sorry for themselves, put this game behind you and move on, not much else they can do unfortunately.
