Woman murdered in Tullamore..

A couple of years ago the examiner had an article from one of their journalists, He wrote about a night out in town with
a few friends, In one bar one of the lads patted some girl on the ass, She didnt seem too put out, But the journalist stormed out as
he felt his friend had over stepped the mark, He said he woke next morning very angry that one of his friends would carry on in such a
mysoginistic manner, He phoned him to give him a piece of his mind, Hard to know if this actually happened , Or just an article for likes,

Lets hope this monster was brought to justice.

It is a very sad case - and such a young life cut cruelly short in such a brutal way. 😢
However, the very fact that there is such a huge - and disproportionate - media reaction to Ashling’s murder actually shows just how rare these crimes are here in Ireland.

I don’t mean to sound cynical - but if the victim was an overweight, ugly 50 something woman - or a man for that matter - as opposed to a very pretty young woman who worked with children - would the media still be falling over themselves about this case?
As has been posted here, the woman murdered by a 14 year old in dublin barely
caused a ripple,

Urantsetseg Tserendorj ?
There was another woman murdered by her partner around Christmas in Wicklow, hardly a peep either, Zeinat Dashabsheh.

Currently known as the Gabby Petito effect. True crime youtubers and podcasters suddenly started dropping videos about non white victims at a noticeable rate in the aftermath and the discussion over how much coverage white women get in the mainstream and true crime world. I enjoy true crime pods as many do but am finding they are becoming more entertainment and comedy than actual crime shows.

For example one woman co-opted Petito’s murder as her personal brand, posting 70 videos on TikTok in 6 days, rocketing her following from 170,000 people to over 650,000, with many other TikTok users capitalising on the same trend.

Others have created Instagram and Twitter accounts in Petito’s name, in what could be seen as an opportunistic and narcissistic attempt to gain followers.

‘Missing white woman syndrome’

Since Petito’s case went “viral”, a lot of people have pointed out the media’s complicity in creating another case of “missing white woman syndrome”.

Missing white woman syndrome highlights the notion of “worthy” and “unworthy” victims — those who are considered valuable front-page news, and those who aren’t. This refers to the overabundance of coverage of cases of missing white women, and the lack of coverage of people of colour and men.
