Wuhan Wheeze

363,152 active cases in Ireland at the moment. That’s a lot of people and then you throw in close contacts. Lot of people off work for no reason.

for no reason?

say ~25000 measured cases - so say 50,000 cases overall.
and 984 in hospital (in hospital means they're sick and need a HCP to look after them).

what happens if all the people isolating for "no reason" stop isolating.

that becomes 100,000 or 200,000 overall - and the 984 in hospital quadruples.

and then someone in my family gets a stroke or a heart attack - and there's no beds because the infected people had no reason to stay off work.

steady as she goes - and no fucking crazy talk.

It needs perspective.
People die from lots of things, a big flu season will kill a decent number of people.

There are costs to the isolation too, especially in the health care sector, operations won't happen, appointments will be missed, etc...

We are very rapidly approaching the point where there needs to be a re-evaluation of the risks.
18 months ago, there was no doubt, you let the disease rip and the consequences are going to be horrendous at a societal level.

Now, it's not so clear that's the case. Not saying lift all restrictions but some revision of things like isolation and contact are probably worth easing in a few weeks time.

Absolutely consider the timings, absolutely consider shortening isolation.

Characterise it as ‘babysitting’ - or ‘no reason’ is absolutely the wrong thing to do.

Well I know loads of people who are close contact and aren't sick, they can't work or go out, even though they're healthy.
We have over 300 thousand active cases, and 84 in ICU.
