Pubs reopening June 29th

Nightclub owner says his staff are worried if they'll have a job next week. Isn't there an unprecedented staff shortage in the hospitality industry right now? They'll walk into another job, and probably one that's a lot nicer than working til all hours in a packed Dublin nightclub.

A Dublin nightclub owner has described as a "shock" and a "bolt out of the blue" the decision to close bars, restaurants and nightclubs from midnight to try to stem Covid-19 infection rates.

Ian Redmond, who owns the Tramline Nightclub in Dublin, said that the decision seems unfair and came without consultation with stakeholders in the night-time economy.

Speaking on RTÉ's News at One, he called on the Government to consult with the Licensed Vintners Association about reinstating business supports to "help keep the lights on".

He said he employs 55 staff "who are wondering if they will have a job to come to next week".

Mr Redmond said "if you are going to close us, please support us as our businesses cannot survive".

He said "we did everything we were asked for ... and [for staff] to get the rug pulled from under their feet, with mortgages, rents and bills to pay... we need some certainty".

Nightclubs are an easy shot to take because they're only kids going there and they don't vote for the government anyway.

I wonder if they'd try the same with sports events (not that I want them to.)

This thread.

People risking the health of themselves and those around them all for the sake of a drink. But what do we really expect when we are a nation of alcoholic deniers? Throwing covid denying into the mix is as easy as ordering a nice cold pint.

Ladys and gents this is how alcohol works.

Are all the deniers going to agree now that alcohol and social distancing can never mix?
Ive only been saying it since the start of the pandemic like.

In this thread alone there are at least TEN candidates for idiot of the year.

But their minds are so polluted they never even saw what they were typing.

Alcohol. Cunning, Baffling, Powerful.
Oh Jesus.

Im
Worn out from this kind of shite.

Would you EVER give over?

Yet another hammer blow to late bars, music venues, nightclubs and the artists who work within the nighttime industry. Not to mention the excess stock these venues are now holding and the costs associated.

With just two days notice to cancel staff, DJs/bands and security, what a nightmare. Surely the government knew last week or the week before that they were going to impose this curfew, and could have given more than two days notice? The nighttime industry has suffered one blow after another, and have been one of the main scapegoats since covid hit.

AFAIK, late bars and nightclubs will not get their exemption fees refunded as this money is duty to the courts.

We've been hitting around four thousand cases a day since the start of November, Martin has been in the news for weeks saying no further restrictions being considered, and then yesterday two days notice was given to the industry.

How much business will actually be lost for the likes of music venues and ordinary bars with the 12pm close?
