Corkman in Moral Dilemma About Buying Dublin-reg Car
30th Oct 2026

Born and bred Churchfield man Finty O’Sullivan-Griffin finds himself in a moral
dilemma over a work colleague’s offer to sell him his 2021 Skoda Octavia for a
bargain €15,000.
At least two grand cheaper than anything similar on the market and with the car
in pristine condition, the Cork GAA supporter, finds himself in a moral bind.
“I’ve never driven a car that isn’t a Cork reg,” says the 38 year old, “I’m not
sure how my family would take it and the slagging up at the club would be off
the scale. But it’s a really, really good deal”.
Already known as “Tipper” by his friends for once stopping for fuel in Cashel,
Co. Tipperary on his way back from Dublin when he could have held on until
Mitchelstown, the Cork man is understandably cautious about any perceived
disloyalty to the Rebel county.
“One time the lads found a can of Guinness at the back of my fridge that was
there for years after someone brought it to a party. They took a photo of it and
posted it with the caption ‘Bring Back Hanging’. That’s what I’m dealing with.”
Many Corkonians have experienced the dilemma O’Sullivan-Griffin now faces – a tempting
bargain on a new car but with the heavy price of the shame of driving a vehicle
with a Dublin registration.
