I see the Daniel O'Donnell look-alike has been confirmed to lead the DUP and reunite the party after Poots. Though the majority of MLAs rejected him in favour of Poots just a few short weeks ago.

No doubt about it Donaldson is much more urbane than a creationist like Poots, but anyone who thinks Donaldson is a moderate politician hasn't been paying attention.

He started out in politics as part of Enoch Powel's election team and went down hill from there.

He was on the UUP (before he and many others jumped ship to the DUP) negotiation team for the GFA but left in protest at the thought of Sinn Fein ever being in government.

Very hard to teach an old dog a new trick but hopefully JD will have realised now that the only way for progress is to try mould the change rather than trying to fight tooth and nail against each and every thing.

Think he's still a member of the Orange Order too so these coming couple of months may get hairy. Here's hoping for lots of bad weather and continuing covid restrictions in the north.

NEW from DUP: “The Party Chairman has received a letter from Sir Jeffrey Donaldson MP confirming that he has been charged with allegations of an historical nature and indicating that he is stepping down as Leader of the Democratic Unionist Party with immediate effect. In accordance with the Party Rules, the Party Officers have suspended Mr Donaldson from membership, pending the outcome of a judicial process. The Party Officers have this morning unanimously appointed Mr Gavin Robinson MP as the Interim Party Leader."
