DEERHOOF

“the best band in the world.” - Pitchfork

“Offend Maggie is head-spinning bliss from beginning to end and proves that the quartet are the best progp-rock post-punk Afro-Oriental art-pop folk-jazz band in the world.” - Observer Music Monthly

“All the parts are in place on Offend Maggie, Deerhoof’s beguiling, characteristically uproarious new album.’ - The New York Times

“Offend Maggie is the sound of a group mind at work, deep in spontaneous collective play-but a kind of play taken very very seriously. As it should be.” - The Wire

Like all the best pop music, Deerhoof has always been strikingly new and yet strangely familiar. Melodic beauty, as if out of a half-remembered dream, is set against flashes of brilliant innovation that seem to be as much of a surprise to the band as to the listener. With Deerhoof every song is an adventure. Classic rock, J-pop, jazz, classical, and noise suddenly become inseparable, as if no stylistic barriers had ever truly existed. This is reflected in their equally wide following: Ask five fans to pin down Deerhoof's sound and you'll get five completely different answers.

Their mid '90s debut saw them being branded "too noise for pop" and "too pop for noise." But even as this combination eventually proved basic to the sound of contemporary indie rock, lifting the band out of obscurity in the process, Deerhoof has remained a genre unto themselves. >From the cartoon surrealism of Milk Man (2004) or Friend Opportunity (2007) to the gritty realism of Apple O' (2003) and Offend Maggie (2008), they have invented their own instantly recognizable way of writing, playing and recording a song.

They are a study in contrasts. Vocalist/bassist Satomi Matsuzaki's light, cool delivery, and the laser beam clarity of her melodies, create a magical tension with her bandmates' ragged power and hyperexpressivity. Underlying any seemingly mythic tendency in the lyrics is a very human concern with worldly love and friendship. And while they can pull out all the stops with some breathtaking songwriting sophistication and virtuosic sparkle, always present is an unpretentious Deerhoofian joy. Ultimately their only rule has been to throw away the rules. As successful as they've become, they are an inspiration to their ever-growing audience because they've stayed DIY, stayed positive, and stayed pure.

TEN PAST SEVEN

http://www.myspace.com/tenpastseven

Ten Past Seven are Matt on Bass, Ger on Drums and Rory on Guitar.

TP7 burst out of the bogs of Kerry like the mythical bog walrus itself; graceful and ferocious with a taste for the deeper grooves. With guitar, bass and drums these three young men from the magical Kingdom bring a refreshingly heathen approach to a scene so often over intellectualised and mined for its own inner reflections.

TP7 explore intoxicating grooves using disorientating tempos discovering on the way explosive undercurrents, the intensity of which are likely to grab you by the genitals and rattle your visceral cage.

On stage they hold an audience captive, reeled in by mesmerising rhythms and disturbingly hypnotic facial expressions What starts as an impressive display of soulful musical dexterity, quickly evolves into an all out frenzy of voluminous crescendos and gutshakingly metallic climaxes.

Their debut release on Outonalimb displays the full range of their ability to transfer their raw power and passion to musical expression with an uncluttered instrumental palette, combining psychedelic groove, metal mayhem and jazzy post rock.

They've graced the stage with such acts as. Lightning Bolt, Dj Scotch Egg, XBXRX, Pelican, Nina Nastasia, Charlottefield, Giddy Motors, The Redneck Manifesto and have summered at Irish festivals Mantua, The Green Gathering, Livestock, Pikey Fest, Bloom Fest, Killkenny arts Fest and more.

On Tuesday March 27th 2007 TP7 and Los Langeros climbed the highest mountain in Ireland, Carrantouhil, in an effort to bring contemporary Irish music to new heights. Electric and acoustic guitars,a bodhran,a banjo,a microphone were played on the peak all to the amusement of a mountain goat.

In 2008 they released a split single simply titled 'Highest bands in Ireland' exclusively on vinyl with 'Babe Will You Be Mine' by the Langers and 'Anifeiliad' from TP7.

This year they are writing new material and setting their sights even higher with gigs in the UK and Europe to be announced soon.

PERCOLATOR

http://www.myspace.com/percolators

Percolator is an Irish three-piece band from Waterford made up of Jason Grant on bass, Eleanor on drums and vocals and Ian Chestnutt on fuzzy guitars and vocals.

Recently they have been gigging as much as possible at numerous venues in Dublin, Cork, and other Irish cities, with bands such as Ilya K, A Place To Bury Strangers, Immanu El and Katie Kim, and also at the Irish Green Gathering establishing themselves as an exciting upcoming band in the Irish alternative scene.

Right now the three are working on their first EP which is due for release in late March. Demos of their work have already been given some radio play and attention from promoters and magazines. Repeated comparisons have been made to My Bloody Valentine, and Sonic Youth. This may be down to the boy/girl vocals, or Ian's preference for Jazzmasters and alternate tunings, but their music is not necessarily just for gazing at your shoes, it has a raw edge which comes across well live, and there are high expectations for their forthcoming EP.
