In a similar vein to how Rick James felt about the Brothers Murphy (Eddie and Charlie) getting a lot of money, I feel much of the proletariat should never have been allowed internet access. The easily led need protection, not freedom.

The worry is no matter how dog handy a politician is if a fella is carrying a knife we could have a fatality on our hands,
Good point re Mcentee,
Why is it only recently politicians have been getting abuse?
Could it be that they've broken the country, ignored people when they said their actions would break the country and they repeatedly lie lie lie.
Fatty O Brien was scathing of housing policy when in opposition.
Things are worse now and he doesn't understand the negativity.
The current coalition government promised not to coalesce with each other.
People are angry and pissed off.

That's patronising dross.
We currently have:
Record Homelessness.
Record child homelessness.
A deficit in supply of 250,000 homes.
The highest number of young adults still living at home with their parents in the EU.
Record hospital waiting lists.
The most expensive hospital in the world 300% over budget and with no hand over date.
How are people being led?

Latest Irish times ipsos poll SF 23, fg 23, ff 20

Going to be tough for FG to maintain these numbers in actual election - with so many TDs standing down, goes a big chunk of personal votes that won't necessarily stay with the party.
Transfers also an issue with unknown candidates. A good politician will pull transfers from across the political spectrum based on his/her work in the constituency over the years.
Local elections will be more important than usual for FG as they need to get names of potential GE candidates more exposure in their area.

Very interesting piece on Morning Ireland this morning about harassment and abuse of politicians. The Ceann Comhairle expressed serious concern that we could see a similar instance in Ireland to what happened in Slovakia. Food for thought.
Janet Horner of the Greens was abused while putting up posters by some gurrrier.

There are a lot of simple minded people out there who are being convinced by Russian based trolls that the Greens are the enemy, some of those simpletons post on this forum.

Not only GP. Shinner candidates getting savage abuse in Dublin from the "Ireland is full" brigade. Maybe a touch of irony in Shinners now being targetted by online trolls but not good that people standing for or helping any political party getting this kind of abuse.

Definitely an irony. Its shocking to see the abuse they are getting though.

It used to be Labour that were getting harangued but now its SF's turn.

Wasn't Jerry Buttimer once ran out of Togher too?
