For some reason the PC updated one night and the next day the sound had come back again. I have no idea what happened as it's a new PC too and I am not up to scratch on it. At least I don't have to bring it back now, serious relief.

Stuffy stick the headphones in to back of computer where the headphone jack is, it maybe your your pc's soundcard.

Future reference , set up restore points on the pc . If it starts acting up after an update you'll know why, revert to the previous restore point . If you go into the device manager & see a question mark beside a component , ie soundcard , then it's missing a driver or the driver needs to be the updated . Always take heed when installing any new software or update , it can corrupt other parts of the software .
