Far-Right Protests in Fermoy

It should be left to the residents there to discuss with officials and neither Blighe or the other side should have any say.
That's exactly what the residents were trying to do, they were having a meeting to discuss it last week, Derek showed up and was refused entry so did his usual phone in the face tactic and continued to target one of the organisers of the meeting online over the last number of days, suggesting that he has ties to the government and all the usual nonsense. That's what led him to try and have a meeting last night, but a number of left leaning groups in Cork countered this. I wouldn't be on the left myself but it's good to see a bit of push back on him, to often he's been allowed to go in and rant and rave as he wants.

As you said Jimmy people with genuine concerns fall by the wayside now because he's showed up and stirred up his usual shit. The residents seemed to be meeting on this and coming to some sort of a resolution and in comes Tommy Robinsons wingman so screw it all up.

I'm sure the people living there have many others that can express their views more eloquently and with less inflammatory language than Mr Blighe.
Yeah, I agree, his language is inflammatory and he should cut it out. But we all know what goverpolicy is on this ....oh we will engage but it's happening anyway.

Not just government, MLMD said recently no community can have a veto, So basically engagement is merely ticking the boxes
Politicians of all parties just want to be seen "consulting" local communities etc. (We have your back, honest)

In reality it does not mean a whole lot.

If I may and just to be factual here, one person stopped that Derek guy from entering that meeting and appearantly that same person has some sort of an interest in the property that is proposed to accommodate the immigrants.

It's likely that residents were unaware of that meeting. When Michael Desmond, the owner of the fir tree, applied for planning permission last year to reduce the size of the pub and build apartments, he faced objections. He then withdrew the application and began converting the former pub into a migrant center (yet to be confirmed), which felt like a deliberate move on his part. Some residents are believed to have contacted Blighe about the situation.

That seems to be the word going around, migrants need to be taken care of.

The objectors cannot have it both ways and if he is stopped re-developing his property then what should he do?

Just let it decline and not make a return?
