Elon Musk buys Twitter

Twitter is definitely much, much worse than it used to be.

The spammy junk to decent content ratio is getting worse all the time.

Threads isn't there yet. Their lack of a news or trending feed is pretty poor, really limits the value of it, one of the great strengths of twitter is to be able to see reports of what's going on live.

All the Mastodon in their bio gang Tweeting away about how awful X is and what a fool Elon is.

Have to laugh at the clowns in Leinster House trying to blame Twitter for them not being able to maintain public order.

Actually, you can get a dual motor long range all wheel drive Model 3 for €51k.

This has M3 beating performance. Thats a great price on fairness

The last time I was in Norway I was very impressed with the sheer number of electric vehicles on the road. Along with charging infrastructure.

They really incentivised the public to buy in with everything from Vat exemption to free city centre parking/tolls for electric vehicles. Youd think if they were serious about them taking off here theyd try to emulate the country where theres been the highest takeup of EV.

We seem to have taken the opposite approach. Pluck an arbitrary figure for desired electric vehicle ownership and offer little by way of incentive and roll out charging infrastructure at a glacial pace.

Our minister for transport seems to be opposed outright to car ownership , electric or otherwise.

twitter is just advertising cheap tat every 4 tweets now.

I have no idea how the new CEO of "X" can defend Space Karens latest mescalin fuelled nonsense?

Tbf, that are two different things

Yes, Twitter/X is awful under Musk, fuller of the far right dregs of so called humanity, and he's a fool for burning all that money on Twitter, although it's possible that's exactly what was intended.

The Leinster House thing is where Twitter were asked to take down some incitement content and either refused or just ignored the request, whereas Facebook and Instagram (?) did. They need to regulate hard so legally they are forced to, or else face the consequences. The days of the Tech wild west needs to end.

No one ends up with his kind of money through being a fool.

Every one of these dickheads who were off to Mastodon when he bought Twitter are still on it moaning away.

The government are in complete denial at this stage. Rather than take any kind of responsibility for their disastrous immigration policies( that have sleepwalked into the exact same problems as Sweden and Denmark) they're just pinning all their problems on some far right boogeyman.

I understand the need for social media regulation but today you have the government admitting they've nowhere to house the asylum applicants https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/politics/arid-41280001.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Maybe they should censor their own Twitter output ?

Tbh, that is a fairly lazy commentary, they are probably more noticeable now because it isn't as much as a safe space for the loony left snowflakes that had the run of the platform, with the extremely biased moderation carried out in the Jack era.

I dont think a “fool” is the right word for him , i dont even know if there is a singular word that even describes him apart from “fascinating”,both in a good and bad way.

No doubt he is smart, no doubt he is successful (from a monetary point of view) , he is definitely a bold visionary who is not afraid to think big but also there is no doubt that he has a huge ego and there is no doubt that buying Twitter was an ego driven decision which arguably hasnt paid off(so far).

He paid well over the odds, made a balls of restructuring his workforce, he rebranded one of the world’s most recognisable brands, technically i’ve noticed more failings than the Dorsey era. The quality of the product seems to have declined but i am candidly still as engaged on the platform as before .
In terms of turning a profit and growing daily and monthly active users i genuinely don’t know to be honest, do they need to report those figures still?

I can’t see existing and prospective advertisers being enamoured with his comments yesterday, from a local point of view some of the Irish Twitter accounts he has been interacting with is concerning definitely…..

The recent conflict in the Middle East has highlighted that the new propaganda war is being fought on platforms like Twitter (now X).

People take whats posted online as gospel without doing any of their own digging as to what the truth or the background to the conflict is.

He promised to make Twitter more based on freedom of speech. He seems to have achieved that, just ask Paddy Cosgrave lol

Even a fool can make money, hanging onto it may be a harder thing to do.

I'm sure any old racist will always complain about immigration and the far right will always use foreigners to beat down on.

Why would the government actually want to censor factual information, think about it.

X is a privately owned platform. Like Truth Social, or TMZ.

Make of it what you will.
That is true, and it's being used by domestic and foreign bad actors who want to damage our society. The sooner we hold social media to the same standard as any other media company, the better. As I wrote previously, it's about time that the wild west can to an end in this arena, with effective Irish and EU regulation.
