I saw a lovely batch of vegan ones made with apple sauce alright. Not made them before but sick at the moment so not eating much

Though I haven't seen proof of it; apparently the mozzies are complaining that 'hot cross buns are offensive to them' so some shops have a 'tick' on the buns instead of the cross
