This will be just a monster PR exercise for F.G. and a new leader etc. and there will be little else in the media as F.G. will use all the free publicity for their benefit and not ours or the states as their media manager will just go into overdrive.

The people elect the president from a short list of candidates who generally have the backing of one or other of the political parties within the state. Every President to date has had the backing of one or more of FG, FF, or LP.

A majority of TD's are likely to elect whoever it is that Fine Gael put forward. And we all know just how undemocratic the Fine Gael leadership contests are
