It would seem that they were under the impression that they had momentum/backing a few weeks back. Looking at the set up now it seems like whatever small support they had has tapered off. There was probably a few locals who were duped into getting involved for a few weeks before it dawned on them the type of people they were getting involved with. Even Blighes presence there seems to be a bit less recently.
There's a lot of good and very well informed in Fermoy and the surrounding area who are disgusted and appaled by the Save Abbeyville debacle, and there not going to go down there and start taking on people there in the tent for a whole variety of reasons. Some of those reasons are plain to see, look at the tactics of Derek with anyone who challenges him, phone stuck in your face as he shouts about NGOs and Wokeness putting you up all over his Social media for his followers to comment appalling stuff. Sharing any information he can about people, including home addresses. It really is despicable behaviour and incredibly dangerous considering the people that are following his retoric.
He'll claim in some videos that he's not racist and even try to say he's advocating stricter border security, but just go back and watch some of his videos, as mentally draining as it is, he is constantly contradicting himself. The absolute blatant racism, homophobic, misogynistic and just plain appalling retoric that he's coming out with.
And also look at who he's been shoulder to shoulder with at demonstrations, Andy Heasman, Ross Lahive, Philip Dwyer, Tommy Robinson.
I have serious frustrations with the Government and local representatives about the current state of public services particularly in Healthcare, Public Transport, Housing and a lot more. But if you think that people like Derek Blighe and others like him are a solution to those issues have a good hard think about what your supporting.
