Ireland ranks "third in the world" for the number of pubs per capita despite an overall decline, with the drop being offset by a rise in off licences according to analysis from the Health Research Board (HRB).
Pubs are one of the few things (possibly the only thing) that we are world class at. Typical Irish pubs are the best in the world and are a major attraction for visitors to the country. In my opinion, drinking beer pubs should be protected and promoted. People are going to drink alcohol. Much better for them to drink in a pub where there is a degree of control and sociability involved.
