More likely just don't remove the L plates, I see single drivers with N/L plates. If said driver is an L plate remove N plate, if said driver is an L plate remove the N plate whilst driving.

Perhaps because more than one person drives the car. Most cars with L plates are owned by a fully licensed driver, so are they to take off the L every time they drive the car?
