April 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the first public concert in Ireland given by the UCC Javanese Gamelan Ensemble, Nyai Sekar Madu Sari. The event took place in a packed Aula Maxima and was formally presented by Music's Head of Department, Professor David H. Cox, and lecturer in Music, Professor Mel Mercier.
To mark this important milestone, the members of this year's Javanese Gamelan Ensemble are excited to bring the beautiful instruments back to main campus and to share a programme of traditional and new pieces for gamelan in an early evening concert that will include a performance by UCC's Balinese gamelan, Catur Jaya Santi. Join us for a celebration of 30 years of gamelan music-making by many generations of students and staff!
