Seed Talks: Psychology Of Grief In Ireland
Wed 11 Jun 2025
7pm
€18.50
What does death mean in Irish culture, and how do we deal with grief? In this talk, we’ll explore how deeply rooted Irish traditions, such as wakes and funerals, shape our attitudes towards mourning. These rituals are all about community, storytelling, and celebrating life, even in the face of loss.
We’ll tackle the age-old question: Is a good wake really better than a bad wedding? Plus, we’ll look at contemporary grief theories, comparing how we actually grieve versus how we think we should grieve. We’ll also discuss the types of grief that Irish society often overlooks – the hidden, disenfranchised griefs that don’t always get the support and understanding they deserve. By the end of this talk, you’ll have a clearer understanding of how Ireland’s culture, history, and psychology intertwine to shape our unique way of approaching death and grief.
Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7:30pm - come down early to grab a good seat!
