A brand-new fitness event, Project 8, is set to make its Cork debut at Marina Market on 27th and 28th February, bringing a first-of-its-kind competitive fitness experience to Ireland.
Project 8 combines functional fitness, live-event production and real-time technology to create a competition that is as much about atmosphere and community as it is about performance.
Unlike traditional fitness competitions, Project 8 is built around a doubles-only format, with competitors working in pairs, across timed waves throughout the event. Participants are tracked using motion sensor technology, allowing every rep to be measured in real time and converted into a simple, transparent score, with a clear and compelling goal — max metres wins.
The event is powered by innovative live motion-sensor technology, developed by local Cork company Revelate, with reps and metres tracked in real time with a computer tablet and sensors at each station. Live leaderboards run throughout the event, creating a fast-paced, spectator-friendly atmosphere and complete transparency around scoring.
Project 8 is designed to be inclusive and accessible, welcoming everyone from experienced athletes and
coaches to everyday gym-goers looking for a new challenge.
Speaking about the Cork launch, Oliver Kirwan, Founder of Project 8, said:
“We wanted to create an event that’s exciting, fair and genuinely fun to take part in. Project 8 is built around effort, but it’s also about enjoying the experience. We’re the first event in Ireland to use this kind of live tracking technology, which means every metre counts and everything is totally transparent. Add in the doubles format and suddenly it’s not just competitive, it’s social too. That mix is what makes Project 8 different.”
Known for delivering large-scale sporting and live events across Ireland, Kirwan and his team developed Project 8 with Cork technology company Revelate, to meet growing demand for fitness experiences that go beyond traditional competitions.
“It’s a new way to compete, a new way to track performance, and a new way for people to connect through fitness.” Kirwan added.
Running from noon on both days, Project 8 blends competitive intensity with a high-energy, night-out atmosphere driven by lighting, sound and crowd interaction.
