WWCA Celebrates 40 Years – And We’re Throwing a Party Worth Talking About for the Next 40!
Forty years. Just take a moment to think about that.
When the WWCA first opened its doors, shoulder pads were respectable fashion, mobile phones were the size of paving slabs, and the internet was something that sounded like it belonged in a science fiction film. Since then, Whitechurch has seen fashions come and go, hairstyles rise and fall (sometimes literally), and enough stories, friendships, celebrations and community spirit to fill several lifetimes.
Now, as the WWCA celebrates its 40th anniversary, we’re marking this incredible milestone with a week of events, memories, laughter and celebration. And if there is one event you absolutely do not want to miss, it is our special night on Thursday 20th.
We are delighted to welcome home one of Whitechurch's most talented and entertaining daughters, Norma Sheahan, for what promises to be a hilarious and heartwarming evening.
Norma will unveil a brand-new show inspired by her formative years growing up in Whitechurch. Anyone who has ever lived
here, visited here, got lost here, or been told a story by someone from here will find something to relate to. With her trademark wit and sharp observations, Norma will revisit the people, places and unforgettable moments that helped shape her journey from Whitechurch to stages and screens around the country.
Of course, no trip down memory lane would be complete without a soundtrack.
Joining Norma for the evening will be the legendary DJ Pat Dilworth, who will help transport us back to the glorious, unforgettable and occasionally questionable decade that was the 1990s. Expect classic tunes, nostalgia by the bucketload and enough memories to have you saying, "I haven't heard that song in years!" at least twenty times before the night is over.
Together, Norma and Pat will take us on a journey through a decade that gave us boy bands, dance floors, cassette tapes, denim jackets, questionable fashion choices and an unwavering belief that frosted tips were a good idea. Some of us survived the 90s with our dignity intact. Others have photographic evidence proving otherwise.
The evening begins with a drinks reception included in your ticket price, giving everyone the chance to gather, catch up with old friends, meet new ones and debate the truly important questions:
Who had the best 90s hairstyle?
Who spent the most time in the local disco?
And who still owns a pair of bootcut jeans hidden somewhere in a wardrobe?
